Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Gravains" 2015, Camus-Bruchon

Good things come to those who wait. This could be the motto of 2015. I'm sure many of you have opened 2015s from 2019 onwards and been disappointed. All the promise of the "greatest vintage of the decade" (how often do we hear that from wine merchants?) seemed to be locked up in an iron-bound treasure chest. Thankfully, the 2015s are now waking from their slumber. This Savigny 1er Cru (not exactly renowned for being closed and tannic) from Camus-Bruchon is vastly better than it was 18 months ago. Dense cherry and plum fruit on the nose. Iron, cinnamon and licorice aromas. The evolution is clear, Very good intensity. Definitely not fruity like 2017 or jammy like 2018. Serious concentration on the palate. This could keep going for another five years. Great stuff. 2015 definitely has far more tannin than any vintage since 2012. I know it's June but this needs a proper boeuf bouguignon made with joue de boeuf thickened with queue de boeuf. I can recommend Le Caveau des Arches in Beaune for this specific mission. Amazing wine list too. Photo shows some vines in October 2021.
