Volnay 1er Cru “Clos des 60 Ouvrées” 2015, Domaine de la Pousse d’Or

The Imbiber’s Guide team we’re treated to an amazing barrel tasting at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or in Volnay back in 2017. Over the last ten years there has been an incredible amount of investment in the cuverie allied with innovations in the vilification process such as what looked like Liebig condensers plugged into the tops of the barrels instead of big plastic bungs. The domaine oozes quality. This 2015 Volnay 1er Cru has a chalky nose to start with (it had not been decanted) which gives way to slate, dark berries, bramble and black cherry. On the palate there is rich fruit, breadth, good length, punchy tannins. Very satisfying to taste a 2015 which has been vinified to age for at least ten years! A  case to be left until 2022 before trying again.
