Nuits Saint Georges “Aux Lavières” 2012, Jean Grivot

For pinot, 2012 was a tricky vintage to produce high quality wine. Here’s a short summary in the intro to another NSG tasting note. Surely this storied domaine managed to handle the challenges. A deep cherry colour announces a concentrated wine. The nose offers black currant, aniseed, ripe raspberries, roast fennel and cherry gobstoppers. On the palate this NSG has captured the best of the 2012 vintage with ripe black berry flavours, cherry, excellent balance, medium acidity, wonderful depth, medium tannin, and a savoury olive finish. Will continue to evolve well over the next two years. Scores 86/100. Photo shows some pinot grapes in a NSG vineyard on July 29, 2011.
