Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru “Les Pruliers” 2014, Domaine Gavignet

This is the type of domaine that brings joy to the heart of wine lovers. A good range of wines and a charming wine-maker with no pretensions to grandeur. 2014 was a tricky cool vintage for pinot. This 2014 1er Cru Nuits Saint Georges has a nose of cinnamon, twigs, fudge, candied orange and lamb. Interesting not entirely typical and fun. On the palate this is surprisingly ripe with cherry and plum flavours. Decent tannins which are chewy balance by black currant fruit. Aspects of the saturated tannins of a Portuguese red indicating that it was picked late. Very successful given the 2014 vintage. Time to drink up. Scores 79/100.
