Fixin 1er Cru “Clos Napoleon” 2015, Pierre Gelin

This is one of the top two premiers crus from the village of Fixin (the other being Clos de la Perrière monopole). The vineyard has one metre of packed clay soil at the bottom of the slope and just a few centimetres at the top which means that a top to bottom row of vines produces grapes with different characteristics. This “Clos Napoleon” has an agreeable nose of tobacco and blackberry. Aged in 15% new oak there is still a touch of vanilla. On the palate this Fixin 1er Cru has a fine latticework texture combined with a delightful flavour of raspberry, wild strawberry and black currant. There is surprising finesse for a Fixin. Extremely good wine. Scores 82-85/100.
