Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru “Champonnet” 2013, Domaine des Varoilles

Medium to thick red colour - no purple tints but looks relatively young. Fascinating and funky nose! Rye bread, sous bois, musky, dark and brooding. Cooked Jerusalem artichoke and avocado. A bit weird. Very animal. On the palate this is dense, spicy, blackberry dominated with good tannins. Ripe and showing some evolution but needs another two years at least to express its full burlesque nature. One of the better 2013s I have tasted. Scores 85-89/100.
