Santenay 1er Cru “Clos Rousseau” 2017, Cyrot-Buthiau

The Domaine Cyrot-Buthiau has vineyards from Pommard to Maranges the relatively unknown southerly appellation of the Côte de Beaune. Santenay itself is not so well known despite producing some cracking wines with depth, tannins and ageing potential. This “Clos Rousseau” fits into that category. Produced from vines planted in 1937 and aged in 20% new oak from the Vosges forest, this Santenay has impressive depth, minerality and complexity. The feminine 2017 characteristics soften the sometimes abrasive (for pinot noir!) tannins. Excellent value at £22.92 per bottle in bond.
