Marsannay 2016, Joseph Roty

During the Corney & Barrow en primeur Burgundy 2017 tasting I sampled this wine without checking the vintage and was stunned by the animal, musky, medicinal nose. Very unlike the other 2017s! On the palate this Marsannay has a cherry fruit flavour, plenty of tannins, it’s a bit of a rustic monster. Totally unlike the floral, suave and fine 2017s. It raises the question of who will buy 2016s now there are more enjoyable, better made and often less expensive 2017s. At £22.91 per bottle in bond this is not inexpensive.
