Saint-Aubin 1er Cru “Fleurs de Côteaux” 2006, Thierry & Pascale Matrot

Procured from the domaine this Saint-Aubin has a yellow-bronze colour which gives an indication of its age as well as the ripeness of the year. A touch of spritz as well which is never good to see. The 2005 from this vertical flight was corked and I have struggled with other wines from this domaine which have aged badly. This 2006 Saint-Aubin has a sulphur and matchbox nose. Burnt pumpkin and sweet potato. Roast cauliflower. Toasted pistachio. Minerality. Lovely white honey flower. Really thrilling flavour. Delicious, light and potent. Liquid saffron. Delicious pear and white peach. A special treat. What sense in keeping wines beyond their sell by date? Ancient unicorns!
