Vougeot 1er Cru "Les Petits Vougeots" 2011, Domaine Bertagna

Years ago, I tasted at Domaine Bertagna and really enjoyed the fresh, elegant style. It had been quite some time since I'd tried any of their wines so for a family Sunday lunch at Le Montrachet I thought this would be a good, mature bottle to try. The deep ruby, cherry red colour showed some age. The nose was immediately charming dominated by black currant, strawberry and violet. Clear evolution onto tertiary aromas of cloves, gamey pheasant and sweet licorice. A fine, sensual nose. Full but not aggressive or overly ripe. Lovely forest berry fruit on the palate. Perfectly poised and was a very good companion to the cochon de la ferme de la Clavisy. Really delectable and consistent with my prior experience of Domaine Bertagna wines.
