Puligny-Montrachet 2008, Jean Chartron

This Puligny from the venerable Jean Chartron domaine signalled its age with a lovely, rich yellow and brass colour. There is vanilla, honeysuckle, apple pie, mirabelle (yellow plum), orange sponge cake and egg custard on the nose. Very harmonious. Big impact on the front palate with clementines and yellow apple. Round, savoury, lively, good lemon acidity, really superb. Because Jean Chartron's wines often drink very well when they are young I have been skeptical about how they age. But this 2008 Puligny clearly demonstrates their long-term potential which draws on the elegant balance of the wine. Photo shows Puligny vineyards looking towards Le Montrachet in early April 2018.
