Meursault 2007, Henri Darnat

I am still working through the fond de cave but there is light at the end of the barrel. I bought this bottle at a tasting in the cuverie of Henri Darnat who was at the time a zealot for stainless steel. Tasted blind this Meursault 2007 had an open, warm, honeysuckle nose with orange, oak, cloves, butter and old book aromas swirling out of the glass after 10 minutes. The aromas tail off after a while but also offer baked orange, dried fruit and egg custard. Medium-bodied, structured, punchy, quite hefty and definitely old. A touch sour on the finish. The ripeness and density made me think it was a 2009 Meursault. Definitely Meursault. I was surprised to find this was a 2007 -- a much riper vintage. Shows what happens when you put good Meursault grapes in stainless steel and bottle age the product for 10 years... it is still very Meursault-like!
