Vosne-Romanée 2016, Jean Grivot

This Vosne-Romanée from the venerable Domaine Jean Grivot is one of the more impressive wines of the 2016 vintage and definitely worth adding to the cellar. This 2016 Vosne-Romanée fires an opening salvo of (good) barnyard aromas, slate, iron, plum stones. It's a savoury nose for this early stage of evolution. Very fine berry fruit as if it has been passed through a sieve. Entertaining minerality. Red fruit dominated: raspberry, red currant, cranberry, blood orange. It's tangy without becoming tart. As with many of the 2016 red Burgundies there is length without much width. Nevertheless has some power. This is £570 per case of 12 bottles which is £59.60 per bottle retail. Not a stunning Vosne but in the upper echelons of the 2016 vintage.
