Volnay 1er Cru "Taillepieds" 2016, de Montille

Taillepieds is for me one of the three larger premiers crus which is classic Volnay (the others being Clos des Chenes and Caillerets Dessus). This 2016 Volnay-Taillepieds is a very successful wine: a refined nose, aniseed, pleasant cherry aromas, a bit restrained now but definitely has potential. Fuller flavoured and riper on the palate: baked plum, plum pudding, vanilla, evolved, blackberry fruit. More impact on the front palate with ripe, sweet fruit than with minerality or tannin on the finish. Really enjoyable. Scores 77-83/100 which in 2016 is a big success. This costs £840 for a case of 12 bottles in bond which is £86.60 per bottle retail. If you can afford it (and not worry that you could buy 2 bottles of equivalent wine from 2010) then it's worth investing.
