Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Referts" 2016, Bachelet-Monnot

This was one of the more impressive wines from the Bachelet-Monnot flight presented at the Justerini & Brooks annual en primeur Burgundy tasting. Aromas of green gauge, satsuma, bergamot orange and a pleasing hint of fragrant, honeyed-saffron. The range of fruit on the palate is better than many other 2016 white Burgundies: red apple, pear, green melon. There is a decent weight of fruit texture which combines very well with the 2016 minerality. Still a fresh and lively style. This Puligny 1er Cru Les Referts 2016 has splendid length. Reflecting (possibly) one of the themes of the vintage, the Referts vines are further towards the valley floor and this produces riper, denser fruit. At this stage, the Referts from Bachelet-Monnot is more attractive than the Etienne Sauzet version of the same wine. Scores 76-82/100. A 12 bottle case in bond costs £600 which is £62.60 per bottle on the table.
