Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint Georges" 2016, Domaine Faiveley

Domaine Faiveley is a great example of the return to quality of the large Burgundian estates. When I first lived in Dijon in 1992, the negociant were not known for producing quality wine. It was more a case of owning or renting top quality vineyards and producing decent wine which would sell. Iodine, pencil lead, it's a bit fuzzy, raspberry, red cherry, a good nose. Whilst a bit quiet on the nose this is gorgeous on the palate. Immediate fruit impact, balanced, rich, fresh and fiery, A gob-smacklingly good Nuits Saint Georges premier cru from the 2016 vintage. Scores 80-85/100 which makes this wine one of the stars of the 2016 vintage. At £900 for a case of 12 bottles in bond from Justerini & Brooks this costs £92.60 retail which is £15.43 per glass!
