Meursault 1er Cru "Les Perrières" 2016, Château de Meursault

Third wine from the Château de Meursault tasted at the Justerini & Brooks annual Burgundy tasting following on from the Meursault Clos des Grands Charrons 2016 and the Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes Dessus. The first impression on the nose is very much one that generates a colour in the mind's eye: spring green leaves. Ripe green apple. Medium++ acidity which is verging on sharp. Definitely sharp edges without quite becoming serated. At present this is eccentric and somewhat imbalanced on the palate and not scorable. Needs time to understand whether it will achieve better balance and add more weight. I wonder if the more limestone there is in the terroir the more excessive the minerality has become in 2016 reflecting the lack of rain in July and August. This is £690 per case of 12 bottles in bond which is £71.60 per bottle retail.
