Chambolle-Musigny 2016, Ghislaine Barthod
To some extent the Chambolle-Musigny appellation is synonymous with its star, female wine-maker Ghislaine Barthod. There is a natural connection between the feminine style of Chambolle wines and elegant female wine-makers. Tasted at the Justerini & Brooks annual en primeur Burgundy tasting, this Chambolle 2016 starts on a cherry menthol nose with a finishing note of raspberry. Cranberry, ripe rhubarb on the palate. This is petite, svelte, dainty and light. As with other 2016s, there is not much padding or width on the palate. This Chambolle 2016 is priced at £560 per 12 bottle case in bond which is £58.60 per bottle retail. For the record, at this price one can buy numerous Gevrey grands crus from good domaines at the cellar door. Scores 65-70/100 which implies it's not great value.
