Beaune Blanc 1er Cru "Clos des Mouches" 2016, Joseph Drouhin

The Clos des Mouches has been under organic production since 1990, the Maison Joseph Drouhin owns a massive 6.82 hectares in this appellation planted to chardonnay with vines an average age of more than 45 years. This was the stand out white wine in the Justerini & Brooks annual Burgundy en primeur tasting. An immediately appealing lemon, lime, apple, orange nose. Rich, open and deep which brings real pleasure to the olfactory senses! Gentle white pepper and cardamom spice. This Beaune Blanc 1er Cru Clos des Mouches 2016 is stunning on the palate. It oozes with ripe green melon and satsuma fruit. Combining richness with length and minerality, few white Burgundies -- if any -- will be able to compete with this miracle of the 2016 vintage. Scores 85-90/100 which is the highest potential of any 2016 white Burgundy tasted to date. The price? £950 per case of 12 bottles in bond which is £97.60 per bottle retail. At least this would be a no regrets purchase!
