Pommard 1er Cru "Clos des Boucherottes" Monopole 2012, Coste-Caumartin

I first visited the Coste-Caumartin domaine in 2010 in need of taking shelter during a thunderstorm. Since then I have thrice returned for tastings and to add to my collection, most recently in November 2017. This Pommard 1er Cru 2012 has a lovely nose of forest berries which really bursts from the glass. There is plum, black cherry, a punnet of black currant and ripe strawberry. Black earth, black licorice, beetroot. The darkness. Thick plum and black cherry fruit laced with blood orange freshness. This Pommard 1er Cru has a real thrill factor. Somewhat youthful tannins. Superb wine and enjoyable fully now. Scores 81/100 now with the potential to improve to 84/100 with more complexity on the nose and a more rounded palate.
