Central Otago "Chinaman's Terrace" Pinot Noir 2015, Mt Difficulty
Final wine tasted at the Mt Difficulty winery prior to enjoying an excellent lunch on the terrace which has a phenomenal view across the entire Cromwell basin. Produced entirely from grapes in the Bendigo sub-region this wine is named for the thousands of Chinese workers who came to the region in the late nineteenth century during the gold rush. Very perfumed floral and fragrant. Nutmeg. Wild strawberry. Oak spices. Baked orange with cloves. The French oak barriques really add complexity without overwhelming the pinot fruit. Silky smooth on the palate this Bendigo pinot noir is all about finesse and elegance. I am tempted to say it is in the style of a Chambolle. Very good indeed.
