Central Otago Pinot Noir 2014, Gate 20 Two
This winery in the Bannockburn region is one of the smallest we visited with just five hectares of vines and they sell some grapes to the much larger domaine next door Mt Difficulty. This pinot noir from the ripe 2014 vintage has a rich, black cherry nose with a touch of caramel. Sweet red licorice. Marinaded raisins. On the palate blackberry, ripe cherry, medium minus tannins, rounded. Good length. This Central Otago 2014 pinot is a touch too sweet and jammy for my palate but it hasn't got so ripe that the sugar emasculates the pinot fruit. Produced from 15 year old vines. Good stuff but not among the best from the region.
