Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015, Soho McQueen
I find myself in Rotorua, New Zealand at the moment and thought it appropriate to visit the local bottle shop before going to Otago next week. This Pinot Noir from Central Otago has a rich, almost opaque plum colour with thick legs hinting at the 14% alcohol. Soft oak aromas, blueberry pancakes, cooked rhubarb, raspberry coulis. There is a lot happening on the olfactory scene. Finishes on grated blackberry chocolate. Medium body, more tangy than the ripe nose, lamb and tomatoes, roast plums, good tannins on the finish. Structure. Powerful but not chewy. Good restraint. Could fox people in a blind tasting as not obviously new world.
