Savigny-lès-Beaune "Les Grands Picotins" 2006, Henri & Gilles Buisson

Sometimes mature wines are a treat and sometimes a disappointment. This Savigny 2006 is an unexpected treat. Bought from the domaine some years ago and recently rediscovered in an aménagement de la cave à Puligny this Savigny packs a punch. Boasting a thick black cherry colour, its consistent and dense. On the nose, black cherry, plum stones, earthy, aniseed, very good and intense. There is pigeon meat and then loads of ripe strawberries. Wow! Once imbibed there are ripe cherries and plum fruit. Tea tannins. Fresh acidity. A dry finish of orange pith and a touch tangy. Yes, its a bit heavy but amazing for a simple Savigny. Scores 26/30 for a Savigny. Bushy, bushy Buisson!
