Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Folatières" 2013, Jean Chartron
The "Folatières" vineyard is one of the larger premiers crus and sits at the same level on the golden slope as both Le Montrachet and Chevalier. The wines from this vineyard can therefore differ between producers but overall this is a terroir of shallow soil and much limestone. The nose is still closed on this Puligny 1er Cru, on the palate its slightly honeyed, with a core lemon flavour, broadens into other citrus flavours and white peach. Stylish and impressive. The house style is reflective of relatively low levels of new oak (10-40%), an alcoholic fermentation of 6 to 8 weeks and plenty of bâtonnage with an early bottling (compared to other top domaines) a year after the harvest. This makes the wines more forward, round and fruity.
