Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2006, de Montille
A fourth wine tasted blind, the tasters identified a significant increase in quality compared to the three prior wines. A red cherry colour which reflects more the wine-making style of Hubert de Montille than the dense pinots of the Clos de Vougeot. The nose is incredibly pretty, offering raspberries, wild strawberries, vanilla, groseille. Moves on to vanilla, very much on the fruit still, lively volatile acidity. Continues to develop over a good 40 minutes to groseille and violets. Superb quality exhibiting a very deft touch in a year which left many wine-makers flat-footed due to the lack of acidity. Lovely fresh berries, a nice uplift at the end, linear, vin digeste, incredibly elegant. A wine that could only be made in Burgundy by a true Burgundian. Scores 28/30 for a Clos de Vougeot. Chapeau!
