Chassagne-Montrachet "Les Benoites" 2011, Jean Chartron

Tasted at the Domaine Jean Chartron in Puligny in mid-July this is a lieu dit of villages quality Chassagne located on the southern side of the village towards Santenay. This wine impressed the Bourgoblog tasting panel from the outset, there is an immediate intense rich lemon nose swiftly followed by pear and morello cherry. For a village wine this is surprisingly long with good mineral edges, it is lively, racy and has strong acceleration on a par with a Maserati Gran Turismo! The fresher style has been achieved by amongst other things keeping the amount of batonnage to a minimum. Scores 27/30 for a Chassagne blanc village. Photo shows an ancient manor house in the vineyards near Les Benoites.
