The vineyard holdings of the
Gros family are phenomenal if you look at the domaines of
Michel Gros,
Gros Frère & Soeur,
Anne-Françoise Gros and
Anne Gros. After a super luncheon at
Chez Simon in Flagey, we visited the domaine for a tasting which took place in a recess in their ancient cellar. I got off to a great start with this wine: pungent aromas of wild boar hair, musk, plum, spice mulled wine and cloves. I thought I had gone to traditional Burgundy pinot heaven! Blueberry, logan berry and robust tannins on the palate reflect the high altitude of the vines which are surrounded by boar-infested woods. Scores 25-27/30 for a Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits. Photo shows pinot grapes up on the Hautes Côtes in August 2011.
