Vosne-Romanée 2003, Jacques Cacheux

This was my final bottle of 2003 Vosne from the competent producer Jacques Cacheux. There are three other tasting notes in Burgoblog for this wine. I was correct to say back in January 2011 that this wine should not be kept any longer; it certainly had more to offer then. Ditto the Vosne 2002 from Jacques Cacheux which had more to offer in June 2011. The blind tasters were generally flumoxed by this wine although Jeremy "Got Wood" Fialko flagged it up as a Vosne 2004. And that gives a hint to how this wine has collapsed inwards. A thick red/plum colour and heavy, glycerol legs. Warm plum initially on the nose, then beef wellington, mushroom compote, rich and naughty. This Vosne 2003 is surprisingly butch, the tannis are hard and heavy, there is a weird harshness due to the asymmetric vintage. Scores 20 / 30 for a Vosne. Required a cup of tea to recover.
