Echezeaux Grand Cru 2004, Robert Arnoux

The wine at the domaine is made by Pascal Lachaux, the son in law of Robert Arnoux, and in the last few years the domaine has been rebranded as Arnoux-Lacahaux. This wine was tasted blind with the Bufties, tasters of great repute. Announced by a plummy colour, showing some age and with a dilute rim. On the nose there is plum, spice, pencil shavings. Its animal, there's a drop of cherry, some lychen, stalky and a tad smoky. Good texture, there is a sense of quality terroir, lively, unripe tannins, decent, no real length, as one taster said "this is a post-fruit wine". You have to like that, "post fruit". Scores 18/30 for an Echezeaux. Curse of the 2004 vintage!
