Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Quintessence" 2009, Domaine Matrot

Tasted at the Corney & Barrow annual Burgundy tasting this 2009 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Quintessence" 2009 reflects the Domaine Matrot house style: granite, limestone, dry river bed... imagine dry river pebbles heated in the sunshine. Reflecting the 30 year old vines, this Puligny 1er Cru is rich upfront, long, orangey and still needs time to integrate. The 50% new oak is not obvious and has been incorporated well into the flesh of the wine. As Burgoblog contributor Rodolphe exclaimed: "Now that's a proper Puligny!". Scores 19-21 for a Puligny premier cru.
