Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2011, Rossignol-Trapet

This domaine was created in 1990 when the old Trapet domaine was split to create the two domaines Rossignol-Trapet and Jean Trapet. That said, the Rossignol-Trapet domaine still consists of 14 hectares mostly in Gevrey. And no dabbling in a silly cépage like chardonnay! With more of a focus on rondeur and gras, this Gevrey Vieilles Vignes (with vines planted between 1931 and 2001), is a successful 2011 pinot in a year when many Côtes de Nuits reds will be severe, with too much acidity, not enough fruit sweetness and a touch too much tannin. Perfumed, strawberry, immediately appealing. Red currant jelly, good structure, fresh and ripe, balanced, lingering spiciness. Good indeed. Scores 20-23 / 30 for a Gevrey.
