Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Petits Clos" 2011, Jean-Noel Gagnard

This rarely seen Chassagne premier cru from Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard is made from a parcel of vines usually subsumed into the larger Morgeot lieu-dit. The vines are at the foot of the Chassagne slope with a significant amount of white clay in the soil. Vinified one-third in new oak this highly pleasurable Chassagne 2011 premier cru is reminiscent of baked lemon pie with whippy meringue, touches of peach, its rich, slightly unctuous, sucré and crémeux. The ripeness stands out in the fresher and more citrus dominated 2011 vintage. Scores 21-24 / 30 for a Chassagne premier cru. Tasted courtesy of the Justerini & Brooks annual Burgundy tasting.
