Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Poissenot" 2001, Domaine Humbert Freres

This is not a domaine that I have visited, nor have I knowingly tasted their wine before. The "frères" are Emmanuel and Frédéric Humbert who are now the fourth generation of wine makers in Gevrey and are descendents of the famous Dugat family. So they come with quite some pedigree. Lovely cherry colour, this wine starts with a traditional Côte de Nuits nose which combines different berry fruits with hints of spice,  licorice and oak. The nose evolves on to ripe cherries and cherry preserve. Very good fruit on the palate, starting to lose juiciness and has that chalky / floury texture of more mature reds. This is a pleasant, enjoyable wine which is just a bit lacking in excitement. Scores 21/30 for a Gevrey 1er Cru.
