Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 1999, Perrot Minot
After being admonished by Ammar Al-Gevrey for not posting sufficient tasting notes recently I felt compelled to put this note up after a splendid double-barrelled grand cru lunch at Clarke's in Kensington. The recherché purpose of the tasting was to compare this Charmes with the neighbouring Mazoyères which can also be classified as Charmes. A true connaisseurs comparison! This Charmes-Chambertin 1999 from Perrot-Minot starts on dates, licorice, cinnamon, plums, conjures images of bucolic landscapes. On the palate there is blood orange, evolved tannins, floury texture. Bright, raspberry, lively, slightly dry, high toned. Good depth. Much more interesting on the nose than on the palate. Proper barnyard. Running out of fruit flesh on the finish. Nevertheless a very well made wine. Scores 23/30 for a Gevrey Grand Cru.
