Beaune 1er Cru "Champs-Pimont" 2009, Jacques Prieur

Another Beaune 1er Cru tasted at the domaine in April 2012 and it has to be said that we were treated phenomenally well by the oenologue (since 1990) and technical director (since 2009) Mme Nadine Gublin. My last tasting here was in 2005 and it lasted three hours. This time, we had ensured nothing stood between our 10am start and a Rabelaisian lunch. The domaine owns a whopping 2.28 hectare plot of vines in the Champs-Pimont which always helps with quality control. The vineyard itself is on the coteau near Pommard oriented directly East. This lieu dit has a significant clay topsoil with high iron content. On the nose this offers plum, then plum again and then plum stones. Its sweet and herbal. There is ripe apple freshness giving the wine a font of energy. A lovely silky texture, long finish, fine, really fine. A splendid wine which scores 25-27/30 for a Beaune 1er Cru. Photo shows Mme Gublin who we thank for her generosity and wisdom!
