Bourgogne Rouge 2010, Michel Lafarge

For a world-class domaine, one of the things I really respect about the Domaine Michel Lafarge is the care they take over their regional appellations.  Frankly, this is the beating heart of Burgundy, where quality and a certain medieval attitude to the outside world triumph over Robert Parker and his acolytes. This noble Bourgoge Rouge is a great example, a complete nose of red currant (groseille), fresh cassis, raspberry. Good tannins and ripe red berries with an appealing freshness on the palate. Lets not get carried away, it is a Bourgogne rouge!, but so sincere, so pinot. Scores 28 / 30 for the Bourgogne rouge appellation. Photo shows M Lafarge who kindly hosted the tasting.
