Beaune 1er Cru "Les Grèves" 2010, Michel Lafarge

A second Beaune 1er Cru tasted at the domaine in April 2012. "Les Grèves" sits bang in the middle of the Beaune appellation stretching from the top of the slope down to the valley floor. Made from 90 year old vines on a gravelly, well-aerated soil, this Beaune 1er Cru from the fascinating 2010 vintage starts with ripe raspberry aromas (what could be better!) and then evolved into sweet herbs like oregano and lemon thyme. Reflecting the low yields from the old vines, really rich, lovely texture, concentrated, mouth filling, perfumed. An incredible wine now and will become more incredible in the next 7-12 years (yes, we do need to wait). Scores 26-28 / 30 for a Beaune 1er Cru.
