Pommard 1er Cru "Les Epenots" 2001, Moissenet-Bonnard

Rye bread, edible moss (a la Fat Duck), plum, cointreau, a hint of seaweed, cherry stones. Flavours of plum, soy duck, a savoury texture, lively orange, sour cherry, acidity, freshness and bite. Classic, old style mature Burgundy. Robust not suave. Earthy. A Burgundy for connaisseurs who understand why weeds grow between the vines. People who have tramped through the vineyards after playing pétanque at midnight in the town square. For the Pommard 1er cru appellation this scores 20/30.
