Marsannay 2008, Domaine Huguenot
The Huguenot family are based in Marsannay and have been there for 10 generations. I assume that they kept their heads down during the persecution of the protestant Huguenots in the seventeenth century. Given its northerly location, one has to be careful to buy Marsannay from good producers. And this Marsannay 2008 turned out to be an excellent little number. Raspberry, cranberry, loganberry, blood orange and dried orange aromas with hints of juniper. An interesting bouquet reflective of the unpredictable 2008 vintage. Medium weight, good berry flavours, a nice shape, consistent. Excellent result for 2008 and worth 24/30 for the Marsannay appellation. Photo shows Isabelle Adjani who fell in love with a Huguenot in the film, 'La Reine Margot'.
