Puligny-Montrachet "Les Levrons" 2009, Bitouzet-Prieur

I have visited this domaine, located in Volnay just down the road from Michel Lafarge, for over 10 years and have always enjoyed the Volnays. More recently the quality of the Meursault and Puligny wines has improved with a tendency towards charm and fruit rather than severe minerality of domaines like Matrot and and Henri Darnat. The "Levrons" lieu dit is positioned on the lower slope of the Puligny appellation by the sole tall tree in the vineyards between Puligny and Meursault. Six months ago this Puligyn was closed, a typical period of muteness two years after the harvest. Now it is a different wine having unfurled beautifully with the new spring moon. Soft apricot, sappy, lemon, russet apple. Good tannins but only a soupcon of oak. Savoury elements on the finish wrapped in peach fruit. No reason not to taste at home on a Monday night!
