Sancerre "En Grands Champs" 2010, Alphonse Mellot

A third Sancerre pinot tasted from the barrel at a legendary tasting with Alphonse Mellot (blended in a single glass so the final article will differ). This pinot starts on a range of musk aromas: sun-warmed wild boar hair, thyme, sage, raw canard sauvage meat. After 1 minute of circulation in the glass these surprising aromas give way to seductive strawberries, ripe cassis, vanilla. Gamey, balanced, red fruits. Tasted blind one could fall into thinking of this as a Chassagne 1er Cru rouge. Interesting.
