Volnay 1er Cru "Les Santenots" 2009, Domaine des Comtes Lafon

The final Volnay tasted at the domaine, this Santenots differs in many respects from the nearby Volnay-Champans. Cassis, blood orange, a fresh and straight up nose which springs out of the glass. Once imbibed this Volnay-Santenots 2009 exhibits a linear character with superb concentration. Its an utterly seductive wine - juste commme il fait. And giving the lie to people who think the best wines come from very low yields, the 2009 yield for this was between 42 and 45 hectolitres per hectare when the average has been 35 hectloitres per hectare. What matters is ripe, high quality fruit which is dependent on the vintage. Hard and fast rules don't apply. Photo shows a Volnay vine budding in early April 2009.
