Meursault-Charmes 1er Cru 2008, Domaine des Comtes Lafon

At this stage I imagine some Burgoblog readers may think that we are sponsored by Comtes Lafon! This is not true, its simply that the domaine has a very wide range of Meursaults and we asked to try some of the 2008s for comparison. Also worth noting that one can not buy wine at the domaine. This Meursault-Charmes 2008 is opening up nicely but still needs at least another 2 years before meriting a bottle-opening at home. On the nose there is a gentle whiff of white honey, followed by lemon and clementine. Lots of fruit, dry, mineral, citrus, sharp yet with serious weight on the finish. Really needs another 5 years for the key elements to meld together. This Charmes demonstrates Dominique Lafon's desire to craft elegant wines even from more buxom appellations.
