Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Cardeuse" 2007, Bernard Moreau

This domaine, now managed by Bernard Moreau's two sons, produces excellent white Chassagne. This is a pinot Chassagne with a thick bloody red colour. Initial aromas of mineral, chalk and quartz suggestive of the Chassagne limestone quarry cut into the Côte behind the village. Cherry, mute, walnut. Then a mix of lead, raw duck liver and iron. On the palate plums, mineral, fresh, zesty with ripe fruit tannins. This is well-made but tastes as if it is going through a transitional period. Wait for another 18 months.
