Bourgogne Blanc 2009, Domaine Matrot

Three Burglobog contributors tasted at Domaine Matrot starting at 9.45am (its a hard life) and as Thierry Matrot said "Vous avez de la chance, c'est ma fille Elsa qui va faire la dégustation". And she was very knowledgeable having spent three years at wine school in Montpellier. The Domaine Matrot website provides useful background info on the development of the domaine over the last 100 years. This Bourgogne blanc 2009 was a splendid breakfast wine: rounded, fresh, lemony, with fresh acidity and some pleasant floral notes. I often buy Bourgogne blanc from top producers because their reputation is on the line and they often make a very good aperitif wine at restaurants like the superb Auprès du Clocher in Pommard. When a friend arrived at Beaune station at 10.45pm and we couldn't find any taxis for 30 minutes the wonderfully kind chef Jean-Christophe Moutet drove to Beaune to pick up my friend and then finished cooking our desserts! Très sympa! This is not to mention the ravioli d'escargots sauvages -- the best dish we tasted on the entire 2 week Burgundy visit.
