Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "En Orveaux" 2009, Sylvain Cathiard

This small domaine produces Chambolle, Nuits and Vosne and has built up a good reputation over the years. The lieu dit "En Orveaux" sits above Clos de Vougeot on a gentle south-facing slope. Very rich dark berry fruits on the nose, black licorice, almost too ripe. Soft cassis, intense blackberry, smooth. Makes me think of a brunette wearing a black fox fur coat in Vienna. A wine to impress claret-drinkers who think pinots are too light compared to a Saint-Emilion. Gloriously rich although not classic Cote-de-Nuits. Tasted courtesy of the Justerini & Brooks Burgundy 2009 tasting.
