Ladoix 1er Cru "Les Grechons et Foutrieres" 2006, Capitain-Gagnerot

The Capitain-Gagnerot domaine in Ladoix, an appellation that has just 94 hectares under vine, is well-known as a benchmark. The Guide Hachette frequently awards the domaine top prize and its a domaine I have tasted at since 1993. But... the domaine started using composite plastic corks in about 2005 and this 2006 is tainted by the cork. Initial aromas are rubbery, banana, odd arthichoke whiffs, green vegetables and cheese rind. On the palate sour apple, its broad and short. No complexity but with a glassy fruit texture. Atypical style for a white Burgundy and goes from weird to slightly unpleasant to undrinkable. Please just use natural corks! This wine is a disaster.
