Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Au Closeau" 2009, Drouhin-Laroze

This Domaine has a phenomenal range of 1er crus and grands crus but somehow didn't make it into the Clive Coates list of top producers. Bizarre. The colour of this Gevrey 1er cru from Drouhin-Laroze really stands out, a thick and bright purple. Plum and cherry nose which expresses the riper pinot notes of the 2009 vintage which warmed up dramatically in September after a fairly poor summer. Powerful fruit flavours on the palate, consistent from start to finish, well-integrated oak. One of those wines which doesn't have a big name but will no doubt be tremendous with roast lamb in 2014. Tasted courtesy of the Justerini & Brooks Burgundy 2009 tasting.
