Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits 2006, Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur

I tasted at the Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur in July 2009 very briefly (we were appallingly late after a splendid luncheon at La Table Comte Senard) and also at a more leisurely pace in November 2009. This Hautes Côtes de Nuits 2006 red has an incredible ruby colour, very clear, bright and transparent. The rim is clearly discoloured. A hot nose of balsa wood, thuya wood and cooked strawberries. A hint of crème de cassis. Dominated by jammy fruits. Savoury flavours, tannin and a certain dryness dominates the palate. No real length or breadth. This is only 12.5%. The wine isn't off but it has been vinified in a lop-sided way. As if the bouquet has robbed the palate. A starter without a main course. Best to accompany with some cloying cheese like Langres or Epoisses. My partner in tasting at Burgundy Report concurs in a tasting note on the same wine.
